Date night is the perfect occasion to build and maintain strong relationships. While outfits and makeup often take the spotlight there is one aspect of preparation that deserves just as much attention: your intimate hygiene routine. Making time for a self-care routine can go a long way in boosting your self-esteem and confidence ahead of hopefully a fun date.

Whether you’re preparing for a romantic evening or simply want to feel more confident in your skin, this intimate hygiene routine is designed to leave you feeling your best and your intimate area ready for whatever the night may bring.

Step 1  How to clean your vagina and vulva

To start your intimate hygiene routine and cleaning your vagina. The truth is you dont need to! Vaginas naturally clean themselves. We would suggest to never wash internally or use douching products as this will interfere with the healthy bacteria and disrupt your pH causing more harm than good.

Your vulva is not self-cleaning, however it is very delicate. Vulval tissues may not be as sensitive as vaginal skin, but they are not normal skin either. They are a hybrid of vaginal mucosa and skin, so regular shower gels can also be harmful. Avoid soaps with harsh chemicals and fragrances, which can cause irritation and thrush. Washing yourself with plain water in the bath or shower should be enough to keep you clean and your vagina happy.

If you would rather have something that will make you feel a little fresher use an feminine intimate cleansing wash, which can be used all over the body, but is specifically formulated to wash away harmful and odour-causing bacteria on the labia and vulva. Your intimate area is delicate and sensitive, so it's crucial to use products that are gentle and specifically designed for vulval skin

We recommend using lukewarm water as hot water can strip your skin of its natural oils, exacerbating dryness and irritation. Wash using a cleanser that will help maintain your vaginal pH and avoid irritation or dryness. Don’t forget that when you get out of the shower to pat dry the area with a soft towel to avoid excess moisture and also prevent irritation from rubbing

Step 2 - Pubic hair - Choose What Works for You

Pubic hair grooming is an entirely personal choice. Whether you prefer to leave things natural or opt for a barely there smooth look, it’s important to feel confident and comfortable. However, there are many benefits to keeping your pubic hair as it helps to keep the vulva warm and moisturised and helps to prevent infections by keeping away germs and dirt [1]. If you are deciding to groom your pubic hair remember to do it safely by following these tips

  • Trim or shave carefully: If you’re shaving, use a new clean razor and a shaving cream designed for sensitive skin. Be sure to exfoliate beforehand to remove dead skin cells to reduce the risk of razor burn.

  • Consider waxing : If you’re looking for a longer-lasting solution, professional waxing can give you smooth, hair-free skin for several weeks. Although more painful and carrying a small risk of burns, these can be reduced by seeing a professional who should have high hygiene practices and produce good results

  • After care: After hair removal remember to be extra kind to the skin to prevent irritation as the most common side effect of removing pubic hair is genital itching [2] Moisturising your skin after hair removal will help prevent or soothe irritation and aid with reducing ingrown hairs.

Step 3 – Make your vagina happy by tackling vaginal dryness

An essential component of feeling confident is feeling comfortable. If you are encountering any pain or discomfort on your vaginal tissue, you may be experiencing a bout of vaginal dryness. You aren't the only one; vaginal dryness can arise from all manner of factors, from your menstrual cycle to menopause. To feel your best, after your shower apply YES Vaginal Moisturiser to any areas where you feel may need it. The moisturiser will rehydrate the tissues as they need it for optimal relief, making you feel your best and preparing you for where the night may take you.

 Step 4 – Be prepared

You might be planning on getting lucky, decide to wear your favourite lingerie and double-checking your contraceptive method, but you should also prep your nightstand or pop a few essentials in your purse just in case.

There are many benefits to introducing lube into your sex life, but it’s known primarily for enhancing sexual pleasure. The best lubricant will protect your intimate health while providing long-lasting luxurious performance and glide like YES® OB which can also be used for massage, a perfect date night activity. Thanks to the certified natural organic oils in YES® OB  can also be used for water play, as it is water resistant, making it a great addition when spicing up your sex life.

Now go have fun!

An intimate hygiene routine ahead of a date night can help you feel fresh, confident and ready for anything. By taking care of your body and intimate hygiene, you’re preparing for a memorable time. Follow this intimate hygiene routine to have your vagina ready for action and enjoy!
