Recently, we were asked the following question:

I was hoping to get a couple of answers regarding your product. Thank you in advance for your time! I am 38-year old, with occasional/random vaginal itchiness; there is no disease or condition as was cleared by my doctor. I have tried several over-the counter creams, but was not pleased with them. First, how does the "yes water-based" compare to the "Neogyn" cream, another product online that is quite often advertised? Second, can "yes'' can be used for mild itchiness, or is it purely for vaginal dryness as advertised (dryness is NOT my issue)?

We wanted to share with you our answer...

Yes is made from natural plant-based ingredients and a pharmaceutical grade preservative. NEOGYN is formulated with fetal tissue culture, cutaneous lysate, (human I assume) and many synthetic chemicals. Some of which - Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), Triethanolamine, Propanediol, Glycerin and Carbomer - we believe should never be found in intimate products as they are either mucosal membrane irritants or are associated with concerns (BHT is banned in food in UK and can cause allergic reactions, Triethanolamine is a skin irritant and sensitizer and should only be used in rinse off products like shower gels, Glycerin is great for skin but is a mucous membrane irritant). We also don’t believe in using animal body parts or cells derived from humans or animals in our products. Yes water-based is made from greater than 99% natural ingredients all known for healing and protecting skin and intimate tissues, yes water-based is certified organic to prove it is pure and natural. Neogyn is made from predominantly synthetic chemicals and is not certified organic. The actual ingredients of both products are listed below. Yes water based has an immediate soothing effect, especially if vaginal pH is elevated. Vaginal pH can be elevated for many reasons including taking a course of anti-biotics, stress and douching. Elevated vaginal pH can cause the vagina to be irritated and using Yes water based which is pH balanced to match the typical vaginal pH, as a cream it will soothe and instantly reduce vaginal irritation. Of course if irritation persists you should see your doctor, as an underlying infection could be casuing the itchy feeling.

Why plant-based care matters more in menopause

As oestrogen naturally falls in peri- and post-menopause, the vulva and vagina can become thinner, drier and less stretchy, leading to soreness, itching, tightness and painful sex. Inside, protective Lactobacillus bacteria often decline and pH rises, which can mean more irritation and infections, so anything you put on this area...

What vaginal atrophy feels like and how to treat it

For many women, menopause doesn’t arrive with a single defining moment. Instead, it shows up quietly — as dryness, discomfort, irritation, or pain during sex — leaving women wondering: Is this normal? Is something wrong with me? Will this get worse? Can it be treated without hormones? If you’ve asked...
